Hong Kong

I Love Hong Kong.  First time in my life I feel tall.

I slept like a baby last night and missed Jun screaming “I can’t sleep”. Kim was wonderful and got up to play with Jun. Kim had about three hours of sleep and is dealing. This morning we ate breakfast at the hotel, they had a full spread including waffles and maple syrup. We struck up a conversation with some guys sitting next to us and they suggested going to the local market. So a short subway ride and we were enjoying some real gritty open air market selling everything from live turtles to worm tea! Jun got an early Christmas present of $20 form his Djaju and set off to find some cool things at the market. High on his priority list were a Chinese fan, a parasol and some jade. Or anything with a dragon and a phoenix.   So he spent some of his money on a small dragon paperweight and a gem of a find a dragon and phoenix Chinese fan; which he says “this is very special to me”. Soon into this little outing he was showing signs of sleep deprivation and we started heading back. It was still early in the day so we decided to go the  pool  for a swim. December in Hong Kong is nice, like 65 degrees nice. The pool was a bit cold getting into so Jun and I went in just to our knees. Kim and I kept noticing that the spa workers kept looking at us thru the glass windows. I decided to dive in, the water was cool but not shocking like Maine in September, more like Sunapee in spring. We soon found out why we were being watched. Evidentially when someone goes in the pool a lifeguard must be there to oversee. So our lifeguard came out with sweatpants and a down jacket and marched up to his windy chair and he looked like he was freezing. I felt guilty swimming as he kept staring at us to get out.

We had an early dinner and Jun could barely keep his eyes open. So now it’s 4:15 and Kim and Jun are falling asleep and I’m going to enjoy more of this city.
